Stoops, Gundy Agree On One Thing Going Into Bedlam: OSU Has One Loss

At this point, I think I might be a little tired of the proselytizing by Mike Gundy about the Central Michigan game. Gundy said it again on Saturday after beating TCU and drove his point home on Monday on the Big 12 coaches’ teleconference.

This came two days after Bob Stoops trumpeted for him after beating West Virginia in Morgantown.

“In my eyes they only have one loss, if you play by the rules,” said Stoops on Saturday. “They review everything else out here. They review a first down. You couldn’t review if that play should have been allowed or not. I have one of those. I count myself with one extra victory. That one at Oregon that everyone counted as a loss. My record book is a little different than everybody else’s.”

“Every coach I’ve talked to agrees and says the same thing,” said Gundy on Monday in response to Stoops. “Bob [Stoops] is excited about our conference and the success that we’re having. Most coaches know the difference in right and wrong and what happened in that game. So I’m sure that he genuinely feels that way.

“I did not see his comments, but I heard somebody had said, ‘we review everything else in football, why can’t we review that a game was over?’ I think the committee sees us as a one-loss team in my opinion. I’m just nor sure that’s something they can admit publicly.”

Stoops reiterated his sentiment in his Monday press conference.

Of course this is all self-serving. Gundy wants OSU to have one loss because it would mean potential entrance into the College Football Playoff. Stoops wants OSU to have one loss because it would mean beating a one-loss team to end the season and potentially get into the CFB Playoff. I sort of laid out here why the loss doesn’t really matter all that much.

Either way, at least Mike and Cale Gundy will have a galvanizing topic to discuss at Thanksgiving dinner this week.
