Oklahoma State reeled in a major commitment on Tuesday from Texas running back Ollie Gordon, beating out the likes of Michigan, Arkansas, Nebraska, Texas Tech and others for his services.

Gordon is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound Class of 2022 prospect from Euless Trinity, who gives the Pokes their third commitment in the cycle. He’s rated by 247Sports’ Composite as a three-star recruit and barely a top-100 talent in the Lone Star State, though it’s clear his offer sheet doesn’t compute with his ranking.

OSU is getting Gordon at a time when his star is rising, too, a notable coup for running backs coach John Wozniak. Michigan, Arkansas and Nebraska all offered this month in addition to Oklahoma State, but the Pokes wasted no time closing the deal. It took just over two weeks from the time they formally offered to secure his public verbal commitment.

“They produce a lot of running backs,” Gordon told PFB. “Right now in the League, they got Chris Carson that’s there, and they got one that’s gonna go in the first few rounds, Chuba [Hubbard]. And I just like how the relationship is with all the coaches. I’ve talked to all of them, and they all like me. They all talk to me.”

Last season as a junior, Gordon was a monster on the gridiron. He rushed for 2,083 yards (!) on 209 attempts for a cool 9.97 yards per pop with 30 total touchdowns — 28 on the ground and two through the air — to boot.

To secure Gordon’s commitment is big on its face but equally big considering the state of OSU’s running back position. Next season OSU will be looking to replace Chuba Hubbard in the backfield with senior Dez Jackson, sophomore Dominic Richardson and, perhaps, LD Brown, if he opts to return. But even if he does, that would leave both Jackson and Brown as outgoing members of the backfield, so Gordon could possibly step into a role as a true freshman because of the lack of experience at that position.
