The Five Best Stats from Oklahoma State’s Upset Win Over Kansas
OK, I promise we’ll eventually get back to not reveling in the biggest win of the last few years, but one final post on that wild day in Lawrence on Saturday. We’ve looked at pretty much every angle, but the last one I wanted to check out is how the game played out statistically.
Here are five of the best and most surprising stats I could dig up from the Pokes’ 85-79 victory in Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
24-5-5
Here are all the 24-5-5 while shooting 50 percent from the field games since 2010 for Oklahoma State. I think we might be underrating just how special No. 1 was on Sunday against the No. 7 team in the country.
Date | Player | Opp | Pts | Reb | Ast | Stl | Pct |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2018 | Kendall Smith | Kansas | 24 | 5 | 5 | 2 | 63% |
2016 | Jawun Evans | Oklahoma | 42 | 7 | 6 | 1 | 58% |
2014 | Le’Bryan Nash | Iowa State | 26 | 10 | 5 | 2 | 50% |
2013 | Markel Brown | South Florida | 25 | 8 | 7 | 2 | 60% |
11
Kansas is now 86-13 when turning the ball over 11 times or fewer. In that span, their only other home loss when turning it over 11 times or fewer was to San Diego State. They are 83-3 at home in that time when turning it over 14 times or fewer.
52%
OSU’s 52 percent shooting from the field was its best against a Power 5 team since it shot 55 percent against Michigan in the NCAA Tournament last season (how did OSU lose that game again?). Since 2010, OSU is 47-5 when shooting better than 50 percent from the field.
17:12
Kansas’ last lead of the game was at 5-4 at 17:12 in the first half. That in and of itself is a ridiculous, absurd fact. It did not lead at all for the final 37:12 of the game. There was one tie for all 40 minutes. There were three lead changes. OSU led for 37:35.
47%
Of a possible 34 offensive rebounds (30 FG misses and 4 rebound-able FT misses), OSU got 16 offensive rebounds. That 47-percent number is the highest OSU total of the year and a great indicator of winning basketball games. Here are OSU’s 10 best offensive rebounding performances of 2017-18.
