The Reload: QB Pledge Brendan Costello Shines, WR Target Sets Visit Date

Published

on

Several OSU commitments kicked off their 2018 football season this past week on a high note. Meanwhile, a top-flight target on the board for the 2019 cycle set a visit date for later this fall. Let’s catch up with the latest from the recruiting trail in a fresh edition of The Reload.

QB pledge Brendan Costello goes UP

As you can see from the featured image in the post above, Brendan Costello caught some air this past weekend, hurdling a defender en route to a dominant 34-19 season-opening win. Costello went 11 of 16 for 168 yards through the air and added a touchdown to go along with 64 yards rushing.

After the win, he spoke with So Cal Prep Insider where he again opened up on his OSU commitment.

“It’s been my dream to play big-time college football, and OSU just had the No. 1 passing offense in the country. Mike Yurcich has been there six years, it’s a great place to be. No NFL teams out there, so it’s OSU and OU fans, it’s a great environment, it’s big time college football and I’m really excited to be going out there.”

You can see some of his Week 0 highlights below.

Thomas Harper scores big — thrice

The younger brother of OSU linebacker Devin Harper, OSU pledge Thomas Harper, had a monstrous season-opening performance this past week in a 50-26 loss. Harper, who is being recruited as a defensive back, caught three touchdowns and logged 208 (!) yards receiving.

The explosion he showed was a continuation of the talent he flashed at camp earlier this summer that earned him an OSU offer to begin with. He played both sides of the field for Karns, but his biggest highlights were from the receiver spot.

WR target sets visit date

Given the talent pool on OSU’s current roster, receivers coach Kasey Dunn has the luxury to be picky in 2019 when it comes to recruiting the position. So despite zero commitments for the cycle, there’s zero worries because OSU is stacked enough it doesn’t particularly have to grab a prospect in this class.

But adding at least one, particularly a borderline blue-chipper, is the goal. And thus far … things are looking up with Langston Anderson, who said this week he has plans to return to OSU for a visit this fall.

“I’m setting up my officials, and I want to see how some of the teams in my top schools turn out,” he told 247Sports. “I also want to see if any coaches leave their schools or not. I’m going to Oklahoma State on October 5th. I’m also going to Ole Miss, but I’m not sure when yet. I’m looking towards TCU also. Those are the three I know that I’m aiming for.”

Anderson, a 6-1, 192-pound three-star from Midlothian, Texas, has 23 total offers including OSU, Baylor, TCU and others, and remains a top target for the Pokes in 2019.
