Thoughts On Rickie’s Win

-As Ryan Cameron pointed out, Fowler is the 19th OSU alum to win a PGA Tournament event. That’s probably not #1 all-time but I bet it’s pretty close.

-With Mahan’s two wins earlier this year as well as this one from Fowler, OSU alums have now won 15% of all 2012 PGA Tournaments.

-Fowler outdrove his yardage marker in the girlfriend department. Also, how would you like this guy to be your potential future father-in-law?

-Trending immediately after Fowler sank his putt for the win? “Rickie Fowler” and “#GolfBoys.”

-When does “Ricky” replace “Zach” on the all-time “I really can’t believe we don’t know how to spell these OSU athlete names correctly considering 1) how much they’re on TV and 2) how important they are to OSU” list? Is he already there? Heck, HUNTER MAHAN tweeted “congratulations to Ricky on his big win” just after the tourney. HUNTER MAHAN!

-His win was the 58th by Oklahoma State alumni on the PGA Tour.

-Golfers who didn’t get their first PGA win until after at age 23 or later (Fowler is currently 23): Jack Nicklaus (23), Arnold Palmer (26), Greg Norman (29), Vijay Singh (30), Jim Furyk (25), Retief Goosen (32), Sam Snead (24), Byron Nelson (23), and Tom Watson (24). So yeah, I think we’re OK.

-I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Rick might not even be in my top five of OSU professional golfers I root for on the PGA Tour. He and Mahan are vying for the 5th slot behind some combination of BVP, Uihlein, Verplank, and Howell. I just can’t do the flatbill and shirts that look like sunsets. Maybe (probably) I’m in the minority.
