The Cowboys are on the board in the 2026 class.

Jaylen Stewart, a three-star edge rusher from Pearland, Texas, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Thursday. He picked the Pokes over offers from Baylor, Auburn, Arizona State, SMU and others.

Stewart announced his OSU offer from new defensive line coach Ryan Osborn on Jan. 7. On Valentine’s Day, he announced that he locked in an official visit in Stillwater for April 25-27. Then Thursday, he locked in his commitment. The new staff moved quickly.

Listed at 6-foor-3, 225 pounds, Stewart made 57 tackles as a junior at Pearland High School, according to MaxPreps. He also tallied 13 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He even played a little running back for the Oilers, running for 78 yards and a touchdown. Could you imagine getting out of algebra and being asked to tackle a 6-foot-3, 225-pound human?

As a sophomore in 2023, Stewart made 52 tackles, nine tackles for loss and six sacks while also recording two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

He is the No. 476 player in the 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite ranking. That makes him a top 40 edge rusher and a top 65 player from the state of Texas.

Stewart is the first 2026 prospect to commit to the Pokes here in these early phases of the cycle. The Cowboys’ new staff has been hard at work on the recruiting trail, dishing out offers and scheduling myriad official visits for the upcoming spring.
