It’s that time of the week. Here are your Top 10 Comments from a rough 168 hours.

1. On Gundy’s Twitter Comments

CowboyinKansas: Jeez we are reading a lot into one soundbite. It seemed like everyone else thought that what he said was funny, even to the point of it becoming a meme.

What I took from what he said was that people can criticize and tweet at him all they want, but he doesn’t care. Are recruits really going to be that turned off by a single press conference? I would hope not. (23 upvotes)

For me, the Gundy presser was one of those cringy-funny moments. You laugh because in a sense what he is saying has validity. Obviously one critical tweet has no bearing on his job. At the same time, the “late on a payment” and “unemployment” jabs went a little far for me. I think this was one of the moments where a charismatic and confident head coach could have considered the numbers of his fans who may in fact be in financial peril.

It’s easy for one to say, “relax, he was just making a joke.” I agree with that, he was. But again, much easier to defend him when you yourself aren’t the one used as the brunt of the joke.

2. Lots of thoughts on Gundy’s Twitter Comment

Aaron: I agree that Gundy railing on the exact platform he leveraged for self and program promotion is a bad look. I get your hesitation to fully embrace it given your competing priorities relying on it for income yet acknowledging the potential bad. All I can say from my perspective is, I totally get Gundy’s point and think that if it were possible to “uninvent” things, social media should be at the top of the list. (20 upvotes)

The ability to reach thousands of people in an instant is stinking cool. But I agree Aaron, it comes with some serious baggage. Namely, individuals empowered by using their voice from behind a screen. It can be dangerous.

3. More on Gundy

Clint: Not to defend Gundy necessarily, but it just seems like his “rant” was directed more at the content than the platform…sorta. It seemed his real issue was with the undefeated armchair QBs who go on social media (or blog comment sections) and tell him how to do his job…about which they know very little. But yeah, he probably stuck his foot in his giant mouth by calling out Twitter. Hey, at least he didn’t call it THE Twitter! (15 upvotes)

Great point Clint!

4. On Gundy’s Thoughts regarding Jelani Woods

ivdean: Jelani is my favorite Cowboy this year. No disrespect to any of the others but for him to have the humility and team first attitude to move from playing a glamour position to a trench position… that’s speaks volumes about his character. He is playing really well and that speaks highly of his work ethic. I hope he maximizes all of that talent and becomes one of the greatest tight ends in Cowboy history and then we see him on Sundays. (15 upvotes)

ivdean is spot on. Jelani has become a beast at Cowboy Back this year, and I expect we are just seeing the beginning of his success. I could’ve fainted when OSU lined up in the I-formation and hit him in the end zone off of play action. More please!

5. Porter’s 10 Thoughts from the Baylor Game

aix_expert: When you adjust for sacks, we averaged more yards per play rushing than passing. Unless you are running roughshod over your opponent, this shouldn’t happen. And if it is, you probably shouldn’t have 41 pass attempts. But what do I know? I’m the one sitting on my couch (albeit thankfully not unemployed, too bad I’ll still be able to say the same in regards to our OC next week). (14 upvotes)

The Pokes threw the ball too many times in the first half against Baylor, especially considering the wind factor. However, offensive balance was extremely solid in the second half. Not much to complain about except for the 4th and 3 play call. I would’ve liked to have seen Justice with the ball in his hands on the most important play of the day. Especially because play-action and the QB keeper were used so extensively against Texas in crunch time.

6. More on Gundy’s Twitter Rant

OSU Student: To summarize, OSU fans watched this team perform drastically under their potential for numerous games this year, went on social media and voiced their concerns, and he thought the best way to address that was to call them all poor, welfare collecting bottom-feeders who are worth nothing, in a roundabout way. That’s why it looks really, really ugly on Gundy’s part. (13 upvotes)

I think this is the last(!) Gundy comment. At least for this week.

7. Michael Weather’s expected to return to the Basketball Team

oSuFrankenstein: A little surprised he is coming back, but I trust Boynton to make the right call. Sometimes a second chance can completely change someone’s life. (12 upvotes)

After dismissing two big time athletes in Dillard and Dawson last season, I trust that Boynton evaluated the situation fairly. It’s also safe to say Weather’s has a shorter leash than he did when he first arrived on campus.

8. Peanut M&Ms came in at 11th in the Candy Rankings

YetiPoke: What kind of a world do we live in where Peanut M&M’s don’t make the top 10? (9 upvotes)

This came at a funny time. Just a few weeks ago at a Newton family get together, we compared four(!) different types of M&M’s — Almond, Caramel, Peanut and Peanut Butter. My favorite is actually Peanut Butter, but the family rankings came out as follows: 1) Peanut, 2) Peanut Butter, 3) Almond and 4) Caramel. The fight for 3rd place between Almond and Caramel was pretty intense.
