The Top Five Features of the New Oklahoma State Football Uniforms
The Cowboys received new football uniforms this offseason, and the more that we fans see them, the more that we end up liking them. PFB graphic designer Chris Knox highlighted how the kits will actually look on game day, and it’s nothing short of beautiful. There are many interesting intricacies within each jersey, helmet and pant, but here is my list of the top five new features of the OSU uniforms.
Adjusted Orange

It might just be me, but the tint of orange appears slightly lighter than that of the old ones. There were complaints that the old orange jerseys were too dark of a shade and sometimes looked more red than orange on television. With these new jerseys, that issue shouldn’t be a problem. This orange looks brighter in comparison, much like an orange to a persimmon.
Increased Use of Chrome
If there’s one thing that the in-depth video highlighted, it’s the focus on chrome. Chrome helmets will be a bigger focus in 2016, as opposed to 2015 when they only used them four times.
Many teams will try and use chrome just because it’s the new hot thing, but it ends up looking sub-par because the chrome looks out of place. The good thing for OSU is that the chrome helmets all complement the overall look of the uniform.
Plus, they look damn cool. Imagine how amazing the black chrome helmets will look along with the reflective numbers on the black jerseys during a night game. Not only will they expand the use of chrome, but they will probably think of new ways to use it as well.
Cowboy Badge
The Cowboy badge
The Cowboy badge is a subtle-yet-stylish addition to each jersey. The badge is placed right below the collar on top of the Nike mach speed mesh material. In previous seasons, the Cowboy team captains would have a star badge below the collar. You might not be able to see this feature from the stands, but it’s an excellent feature and a tip of the cap to previous Cowboy greats
Bandana motif
The new designs on the collar and arms represent a Cowboy’s bandana. The icons on the bandana sections of the uniforms are representative of OSU’s history; they include images of BPS, the Big Stick and the spirit rider, among others. The bandana sections make the OSU uniform completely unique.
Director of football equipment operations Matt Davis said that these kits are by no means cookie cutter uniforms. There are many uniform templates that you see used by two or more teams, so it is encouraging to see that OSU has, once again, made their uniforms different from anyone else in the country.
Mix-and-Match Ability
This is something that the Cowboys took advantage of with their last template, but it’s a feature that will happily continue. The ability to mix and match their helmet, jersey and pant options gives the Cowboys a total of 48 combinations (that we know of), not including different shell decals and/or chrome accessories.
“What will OSU’s uni combo for this week?” has quickly become one of the hottest questions preceding game day during football season. And they’ve thrown a lot of different stuff at us, including their chrome debut versus Texas Tech and their throwback homecoming series helmets, so don’t be surprised if they unveil even more features sometime in the future.
