Travis Ford can recruit. Marcus Smart, Jawun Evans, Le’Bryan Nash are all top ranked high school recruits who have been recruited by Ford. He has consistently reeled in some top tier talent to Stillwater. Just days after finalizing the 2015 class it appears he’s already on the trail recruiting top-flight talent for the 2016 class.

Thon Maker is one of the most coveted prospects in the 2016 recruiting class. In April, the 7-foot big man cut his list to four schools: Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas and Arizona State. It was widely believed that Maker would reclassify and become a 2015 prospect, and likely join a team the second semester of his freshman year. However, it was recently announced he will indeed remain a 2016 prospect, and Travis Ford is already throwing some feelers out to gauge his interest in playing at GIA.

Maker is a five-star power forward and the No. 2 overall recruit at his position in the nation, according to the 247sports composite. On top of his 7’ 2.5” wingspan, Maker has a unique touch from outside and has recently put on some weight to his frame that should only add to his potential at the next level.

Many analysts have compared Maker’s game to Kevin Durant with similar ball-handling ability and a well-polished shooting game. Maker has the tools to be a physical force down low as well and is already one of the most elite rim protectors at the high school level. All signs suggest he has the potential to be a generational talent – one that could potentially change the face of a program, wherever he chooses to attend.
