Watch: Cinematic Highlights of OSU’s First Big 12 Victory in 2018

Oklahoma State beat Iowa State 96-87 in OT on Saturday. I’m not sure it was a great game, but it was certainly thrilling. It was the Pokes’ first Big 12 win under Mike Boynton and their first win over Iowa State since 2013. It got the cinematic highlights treatment from the good folks at Orange Power Studios (as it should).

One thing that stood out in the video (and during the game) is how easily Jeffrey Carroll took over during overtime. He had a monster put-back dunk (see below) and a big 3-pointer to help seal the deal.

“Jeff is the reason why I try to coach the way I do so these guys aren’t overthinking it,” said Boynton. “He’s a really good shooter, and even when he’s not making shots I want him to feel comfortable when he feels good about one to take it.

“He did in that situation, and he made it because he’s a good player and good players make shots. Then going to the glass is something that we’ve been preaching since day one, and he certainly made a big play in that shot.”

The small crowd even sounded loud in the clip. Tavarius Shine said that’s important, and despite not having massive outpourings of support in GIA, Oklahoma State still slots high in KenPom’s home court advantage rankings.

“The crowd is always big for us,” said Shine. “They are behind us. When we get going, they get into. It gets our juices flowing even more. They keep us going even when we are playing slow or our shots aren’t falling. The crowd can get loud on the smallest thing, like a block, and they can get us going.”
