The Cowboys welcomed a new conference foe to O’Brate Stadium on Friday night and took Game 1 with some extra-inning fireworks.

Transfer shortstop Lane Forsythe hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th to give Oklahoma State an 8-4 win against Cincinnati.

It was part of a six-RBI day for Forsythe, as he started the game’s scoring with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second before tying the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The Bearcats were up 4-1 at one point before the Cowboys plated three in the eighth with Aidan Meola and Avery Ortiz adding RBI singles to Forsythe’s second sac fly.

After a scoreless ninth, freshman Donovan LaSalle started the bottom of the 10th off with a double to right. Addison Smith came on as a pinch runner and advanced to third on a passed ball. Cincy then elected to intentionally walk Ortiz and Colin Brueggemann to load the bases and try to get a force out at home and keep the game going, but Forsythe obviously had other plans.

OSU used only two pitchers in Game 1 of the series. Sam Garcia started and went six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out eight. Robert Cranz was then nails out of the bullpen, throwing four innings where he didn’t allow a run and gave up just one hit while walking two and striking out eight more.

The two teams will go again at 6 p.m. Saturday in O’Brate.
