Week 14 Bowl Projections: Alamo Bowl vs. Washington Seems Imminent (Probably)
There could be some drama as it relates to Oklahoma State’s upcoming bowl game, thankfully Mike Gundy is well-equipped to deal with such things. Following a win over Kansas to push the Pokes to 9-3 on the season, OSU is projected by most to play Washington in the Alamo Bowl.
Outlet | Bowl | Team |
---|---|---|
USA Today | Alamo | Stanford |
CBS Sports | Alamo | Washington |
ESPN (Kyle Bonagura) | Alamo | Washington |
ESPN (David Hale) | Alamo | Washington |
SB Nation | Alamo | Washington |
Sports Illustrated | Alamo | Stanford |
Sporting News | Camping World | Florida State |
The Score (Brett McMurphy) | Camping World | Virginia Tech |
The Athletic | Alamo | Washington |
However, this is dependent on TCU making a NY6 game, which it is not guaranteed to do if the Frogs lose to OU to go to 10-3. Humorously, TCU winning this weekend would help Oklahoma State. It would guarantee TCU a NY6 bowl, and then OU would certainly be selected as an at-large team, too, bumping the Pokes up to the Alamo Bowl.
Side note: I did not envision a preseason scenario in which I was hoping for Oklahoma State to be bumped up to the Alamo Bowl. But here we are.
If TCU does not make a NY6 bowl it will be because Notre Dame does. The Irish are currently ranked No. 15 in the CFP, and TCU is No. 11. But that could change by next week. If Notre Dame (or anyone) makes it over TCU then TCU will fall to the Alamo Bowl and OSU will go to the Camping World.
There has been chatter of the Alamo Bowl taking Iowa State or Texas over Oklahoma State anyway. That’s not going to happen. Iowa State went 7-5, and Texas went 6-6.
Looking at Alamo Bowl history today. The bowl has taken the same team in back-to-back years twice. Purdue in 1997-98 and Texas in 2012-13. #okstate

The only thing that gives me pause here is Brett McMurphy’s reporting for The Score. McMurphy was, of course, the guy on top of the Gundy-to-Tennessee news on Tuesday, and he knows what he’s talking about. Here’s what he projects.
Speaking of Washington, I’m told the Huskies will head to the Alamo Bowl if they don’t make a New Year’s Six bowl. Awaiting Washington will be Big 12 runner-up TCU. (The OSU-Virginia Tech Camping World) matchup is pretty much set – as long as Notre Dame makes a New Year’s Six bowl. If if doesn’t, the Irish would replace the Hokies here. [The Score]
So he’s saying even if Notre Dame falls out of the NY6, OSU will be at the Camping World, which means it doesn’t sound like the committee wants to select TCU for a NY6 game.
All of this will be sorted out on Sunday when the CFP rankings are released.
