Weekend Watch Guide: An Oklahoma State Fan’s Guide to Week 14 of the College Football Season

The Big 12 is chaos.

It’s the last week of the regular season, and just about anyone can still win the Big 12.

It should be a fun Saturday for Oklahoma State fans to sit back and watch the chaos unfold. Here is a look at this Thanksgiving weekend’s stacked slate.

Big 12 Schedule

Oklahoma State (3-8) at No. 25 Colorado (8-3) — 11 a.m. Friday on ABC
Utah (4-7) at UCF (4-7) — 7 p.m. Friday on FOX
Kansas (5-6) at Baylor (7-4) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN2
West Virginia (6-5) at Texas Tech (7-4) — 11 a.m. Saturday on FS1
No. 16 Arizona State (9-2) at Arizona (4-7) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on FOX
TCU (7-4) at Cincinnati (5-6) — 5 p.m. Saturday on ESPN+
No. 24 Kansas State (8-3) at No. 18 Iowa State (9-2) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on FOX
Houston (4-7) at No. 19 BYU (9-2) — 9:15 p.m. Saturday on ESPN

The Big 12 title scenarios are chaotic. The easiest way I’ve found to keep up with the race to Arlington is this handy flow chart.

It gets started with OSU’s trip to Boulder, a game the Buffaloes need to win to have a shot at making the Big 12 title game.

Utah and UCF will play Friday night in a game of little consequence as neither can make a bowl, much less to Arlington.

Baylor is still technically in contention to make the Big 12 title game, but the Bears would need help from elsewhere and to win against a red hot KU team that would become bowl eligible with its fourth straight win.

There are two scenarios that could play out this weekend that would see West Virginia going to Arlington at 7-5. There are also two scenarios where Tech goes to Jerry World at 8-4. Long odds for both teams but neither are possible unless they win (both also need OSU to win).

Arizona State is perhaps sitting most comfortably in an uncomfortable final week of the Big 12. It’s a win-and-mostly-likely-in game for the Sun Devils. The Wildcats will just try to spoil their in-state rival’s party.

The Big 12 has said nine teams can still make it to Arlington, but the flow chart guy seems to think TCU can’t. With that being said, the Horned Frogs’ game against Cincinnati (which can’t make it to Arlington) could play a role in who does make the title game somehow.

The most fun singular Big 12 game of the weekend is a ranked Farmageddon in Ames. The Cyclones look to be in a good spot if they can beat the Wildcats, but that could be undone if Houston upsets BYU. K-State needs some more help elsewhere, but there are also multiple scenarios that see the Wildcats in Jerry World.

BYU could also make the title game should it win the battle of the Cougars. BYU will be cheering for Kansas State in Farmageddon.

Other Games to Watch

Memphis (9-2) at No. 17 Tulane (9-2) — 6:30 p.m. Thursday on ESPN
Oregon State (5-6) at No. 11 Boise State (10-1) — 11 a.m. Friday on FOX
Michigan (6-5) at No. 2 Ohio State (10-1) — 11 a.m. Saturday on FOX
No. 15 South Carolina (8-3) at No. 12 Clemson (9-2) — 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN
No. 5 Notre Dame (10-1) at USC (6-5) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on CBS
FAU (2-9) at Tulsa (3-8) — 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN+
Oklahoma (6-5) at LSU (7-4) — 6 p.m. Saturday on ESPN
No. 3 Texas (10-1) at No. 20 Texas A&M (8-3) — 6:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC

The Big 12 is the most fun league-wide this weekend, but there are other games to monitor as the CFP race tightens.

Tulane is eyeing a spot in the CFP (perhaps at the Big 12’s expense), but the Green Wave would need to beat Memphis on Thanksgiving to keep those hopes alive.

Boise State, for now, is the Group of Five team that is in. Ashton Jeanty and the Broncos close out the year on the Smurf Turf with Oregon State.

Michigan has won three in a row against the Buckeyes, but Ryan Day’s squad is a heavy favorite coming into Saturday’s meeting. A Buckeye win would mean a rematch with Oregon in the Big Ten title game.

South Carolina and Clemson are each hovering just outside the projected CFP field and play a fun intrastate, interconference game. A win from either team and chaos elsewhere (of which there has been plenty this season) could see either team sneak into the field.

Texas’ trip to College Station is the game I’m most looking forward to this weekend because it pairs the pure hatred both fanbases have for each other with the fact that the winner will play in the SEC title game. It’s the first time the Longhorns and Aggies have met on the gridiron since they were Big 12 foes in 2011.
