The biggest individual moves on the team were Geo Martinez at 149 and Derek White at HWT, who both had solid weekends at the Journeymen. In theory Geo, an All American at Boise State before transferring to OSU, probably would’ve been ranked prior to this weekend, but it’s still not clear if he’ll be the starter so some left him out. White was a bit off the radar with the weight change and had a big surge up the rankings because of his ranked wins this weekend.

Chandler Rogers and Kaid Brock both dropped slightly after losses, and Dean Heil is the only pound for pound ranked wrestler (the best overall wrestlers, regardless of weight) coming in at No. 6.

Pound for Pound Rankings

2 SR Zain Retherford Penn State 2
3 JR Jason Nolf Penn State 3
4 JR Bo Nickal Penn State 4

6 SR Dean Heil Oklahoma State 6
7 SO Zahid Valencia Arizona State 9
8 SR Nathan Tomasello Ohio State 7
9 SO Vincenzo Joseph Penn State 8
10 SO Mark Hall Penn State 10
Other notes

• This week’s opponent Minnesota comes in at No. 10 in the Flo rankings, but all the way up to No. 6 in the Intermat dual team rankings. The top Big 12 team is newcomer Northern Iowa which came in at No. 12/13. (They’ll wrestle the Pokes in GIA and on ESPNU February 3).

• 125-Nick Piccininni holds at No. 3 with Flo and Intermat and comes in at No. 2 with Track.

• 133-Kaid Brock swaps with Parker from No. 3 to No. 4 with Flo and Intermat after the loss Sunday.

• 141-Heil remains No. 1 in both

• 149-Martinez goes from unranked to No. 12 with both Flo and Intermat

• 157-Unranked

• 165-Rogers drops from No. 4 to No. 6 with Intermat and No. 4 to No. 5 with Flo.

• 174-Smith stays at No. 15 with Flo and No. 12 with Intermat. It should be noted that all of his losses last weekend were very tight matches with higher ranked wrestlers. Coach Esposito mentioned in his presser yesterday that he believes Smith’s transition to D1 played a role and after getting some more matches under his belt he expects the result to change.

• 184-Unranked

• 197-Preston Weigel, who is currently out with an injury, remains at No. 5.

• 285-White jumps from unranked to No. 11 with both Intermat and Flo.

• P4P-Dean Heil No. 6.
