100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 51 Arlington Hambright

We’re almost to the halfway point of our countdown. With No. 51, let’s turn our attention to the Cowboys’ sole offensive lineman from the 2017 class.

How he got to OSU

When National Signing Day 2017 ended, the Cowboys had only secured one offensive lineman for the class. Former OL coach Greg Adkins had struck out in terms of landing (or holding on to) any high school commits. The one lineman he was able to secure before his dismissal was a 6-foot-5, 305-pound junior college tackle.

Belleville High School (Ypsilanti, Mich.) product Arlington Hambright took the JUCO route after playing defensive end as a prep. Hambright played on both sides of the line at Garden City Community College. He was the Broncbusters’ starting left tackle and helped them complete an undefeated season and claim an NJCAA National Championship.

A highly-ranked JUCO prospect, Hambright originally committed to Toledo but re-opened his recruiting last summer. He chose Oklahoma State over offers from the likes of NC State, East Carolina, Memphis and Houston.

On signing day, Mike Yurcich talked about what the coaching staff saw in Hambright.

“Arlington is very athletic and has a tremendous upside,” said Yurcich. “We feel like he fits in well with what we are trying to do. He is coachable, has good flexibility and good change of direction. He has played both sides of the ball and moves well.”

What he’s done in Stillwater

A 2017 signee, Hambright took part in spring practice and appear in the spring game.

Role in 2017

With incoming Cal grad transfer Aaron Cochran’s decision to come to Stillwater, Hambright will likely be relegated to competition for a backup role. He’s in that group with Teven Jenkins, Dylan Galloway and Shane Richards, all fighting for a backup role at either tackle spot. He could even fill in at guard if needed.

Noteworthy Stats and Highlights

Ranked the No. 34 JUCO prospect in the 2017 class by Rivals. Was part of a dominant offensive line at GCCC that rushed for 194.8 yards per game and averaged 28.7 points.
