Oklahoma State Targeting Pittsburgh Transfer Guard Parker Stewart

The mass exodus from the University of Pittsburgh following an abysmal 8-24 season and the ousting of head coach Kevin Stallings could benefit Oklahoma State.

As Mike Boynton looks to add to his guard depth for the future, he and the coaching staff have reportedly reached out to talented Pitt shooting guard Parker Stewart.

According to Evan Daniels of 247Sports, OSU is one of 11 schools that have reached out to the freshman.

Pittsburgh transfer Parker Stewart has heard from Maryland, Nebraska, USC, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, St. John's, WKU, Wyoming and North Florida, he tells @247Sports.

Stewart also noted that playing for his dad at UT-Martin was an option.

Stewart just wrapped his freshman season with the Panthers, playing in all 32 games. In his 26.2 minutes a game, Stewart averaged 9.1 points on 38 percent shooting, including 38 percent from three, along with 3.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. However, his minutes and stats improved during ACC play, up to 11.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1 assist in 30.9 minutes a game.

The 6-5, 190-lb guard from Union City, Tennessee would add some quality depth to a roster that’s losing two guards in Kendall Smith and Jeffrey Carroll, while only adding two in Michael Weathers and Curtis Jones (the latter of which won’t be eligible until the second semester next season).

Where he would really help OSU would be 3-point shooting. While his season average of 38% won’t wow you, his percentage during ACC play improved to 40.3% which was the best in the conference.

As Boone pointed out earlier today, Boynton is making it a focus to bring in transfers to help keep the program running while he continues to build relationships with recruits. While there’s a lot of demand for Stewart, he would be a welcome addition to a team that likes to shoot the 3, and could use some help doing so.
