Former OSU Point Guard Brandon Averette Lands at Utah Valley

Former Oklahoma State point guard Brandon Averette, a sophomore who announced recently he was exploring options on the transfer market, has committed to play for Utah Valley.

The program announced his transfer was official on Tuesday, which came on the heels of an official visit to campus this past week.

Averette played in every game for the Cowboys in 2017-18 and started six, though he was utilized primarily as a backup to graduate transfer Kendall Smith. He averaged 6.3 points and 2.9 assists per game in his second season in Stillwater.

Averette originally committed to Brad Underwood and Stephen F. Austin out of high school, but when Underwood took the OSU gig, he followed him to Stillwater. After two seasons, though, it didn’t appear likely that Averette would grow into a starting point guard at the Big 12 level.

Averette will be required per NCAA rules to sit out the 2018-19 season but will have two seasons of eligibility remaining beginning the following season. He joins a WAC program that is coming off a 23-11 campaign but loses senior point guard Brandon Randolph and will lose junior Ben Nakwaasah before Averette can resume play again.
