PFB Roundtable: Talking Our Favorite Former Oklahoma State Pokes
The PFB staff got together to dish on our favorite former Cowboys and some of the most memorable moments of their careers. We’re going to change up the format a bit for the sake of flows.
Here are the talking points.
1. We hope you enjoy and be sure to chime in with yours below.
2. Your favorite moment of his/her college career.
3. Your favorite moment of his/her career post-college.
Kyle Cox
Favorite former Poke: Dez Bryant
Favorite College Moment: There were several, but not as many as there should have been. Thanks a lot, Deion.
But this punt return against Texas A&M always sticks out from the way Dez kind of loops back, disappears and then, all of the sudden, is blazing towards pay dirt.
Favorite Pro Moment: There were several big-time moments and throw-up Xs on the field but I’ll always remember when Dez came back to Stillwater with Brandon Weeden and Dan Bailey to debut OSU’s new uniforms a couple of years ago. Then he stopped by to see his former academic advisor at OSU which resulted in this all-time memorable moment.
Let’s hope there are many more on-the-field plays still to come.
Seth Duckworth
Favorite former Poke: Daniel Cormier
Favorite College Moment: His NCAA finals match with Cael Sanderson. Sanderson was the best college wrestler ever and Daniel’s the only one I can remember even keeping him honest, even though he didn’t win.
Favorite Pro Moment: His last UFC title defense. His career has always been mired by losses to Jon Jones and Jon’s failed drug test even though Daniel is one of the GOATs. That seemed to be a fight where even the biggest Jones supporters finally started acknowledging what Daniel has done.
Jacob Overton
Favorite former Poke:Â This is actually a really tough question, but I’m going to settle on Russell Okung.
Favorite College Moment:Â There’s not one single moment that stands out from his college days, but he was integral to those ’08 & ’09 teams’ success that really got the football success started.
Favorite Pro Moment:Â Watching him get a big fat Super Bowl ring with the Seattle Seahawks.
Kyle Porter
Favorite former Poke:Â This was easy for me. No. 34. Desmond.
Favorite College Moment:Â This one was pretty tough, but two stick out. One is the dunk he had on Kansas in the 2000 Big 12 Tournament. It was a lob from Doug (who was at half court), and I’m not sure how Des didn’t tear his rotator cuff throwing it down.
The other is walking out with his dad on senior night. The rest of that night was obviously awful, but that moment was just the coolest.
Favorite Pro Moment:Â Another easy one but the 2001 Slam Dunk Contest, just after the plane crash. Possibly forgettable in NBA history, but an all-timer for Cowboy fans. Runner up: Him throwing down on David Robinson in his rookie year. It’s not in this compilation, but this is a good reminder of how explosive Young Desmond was.
