2020 Dual-Threat QB from Arizona Enjoys Time in Stillwater with Yurcich

The Oklahoma State coaching staff has been busy in recent weeks hosting high school players at various camps in Stillwater. Many offers have been extended as a result of these camps, and several top performers will be receiving offers soon.

One player who has not yet received an offer, but seemed to really enjoy his time on campus is class of 2020, dual-threat quarterback Tyler Beverett.

The Scottsdale, Arizona native told Adam Gorney of Rivals.com his relationship with OSU is a good one.

“I was excited to visit Oklahoma State. Coach (Mike) Yurcich was the first coach to come visit me last spring and express interest. They have an exciting offense that is very similar to what we run at Saguaro.” [Rivals]

Currently, Beverett’s only offer is from Indiana, but the young quarterback only played in two varsity games last season as a sophomore. Coaching staffs are waiting to evaluate his game film as he gets set to take over as the lead man for Saguaro High School. It will be important for college coaches to see how he handles the pressure that comes with taking the reins of a high school team that’s won five straight 4A state championships.

One of those coaches that will be interested in watching Beverett’s progression into a starting role is Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. From the sound of things, the three-start prospect and Coach Yurcich really hit it off during their time together on campus.

“I predominantly worked with coach Mike Yurcich. We started out the morning with him getting me on the white board and going through different plays. We each covered our favorite plays for different defensive scenarios. Later in the day, we got out on the field and I got to see how he coaches his quarterbacks and he is a pretty fiery and exciting coach.

Oklahoma State relies heavily on their passing game and it contributes to their exciting high-scoring offense. I feel that I’m at my best in those kinds of offenses.” [247Sports]

Beverett says he tries to play like current Tennessee Titans’ quarterback Marcus Mariota… and, well… I’d say he was a pretty good college quarterback. The No. 21 ranked dual-threat prospect, per 247Sports Composite rankings, sounds confident and ready to lead the 4A powerhouse Saguaro.

The Cowboys currently have one quarterback commit in the 2019 class, three-star Brandon Costello, and they don’t have any commits at that position in the 2020 class. With incoming freshman Spencer Sanders set to be the QB1 of the future, Oklahoma State should be set at this position for the next few years.

However, someone will have to take over when Sanders eventually leaves and landing a solid 2020 quarterback is definitely on this coaching staff’s wish list.
