Previewing the Big 12’s Opening Weekend Football Schedule

What to expect from the Big 12 on opening weekend.

Opening day of college football officially came and went over the weekend, with Hawaii downing Colorado State, UMass thrashing Duquesne, Rice beating Prairie View and Wyoming taking down New Mexico State as part of Week Zero.

But the official season in earnest kicks off Thursday, and Oklahoma State’s game against FCS-level foe Missouri State will lead the way as the first conference team to hit the field this season. The rest of the conference’s slate is Saturday-heavy, and features premier matchups between WVU-Tennessee, OU-FAU and more.

Let’s look at the Big 12 schedule for the week.

Thursday, Aug. 30

Oklahoma State vs. Missouri State, 7 p.m., FS1

Saturday, Sep. 1

Oklahoma vs. Florida Atlantic, 11 a.m., FOX

TCU vs. Southern, 11 a.m.

Texas vs. Maryland, 11 a.m., FS1

Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss, 11 a.m., ESPN

West Virginia vs. Tennessee, 2:30 p.m., CBS

Kansas vs. Nicholls, 6:00 p.m., ESPN+

Kansas State vs. South Dakota, 6:00 p.m., ESPN3

Baylor vs. Abilene Christian, 7:00 p.m.

Iowa State vs. South Dakota State, 7:00 p.m.

Although opening weekend will be met with great excitement, there are only four ranked-on-ranked games to begin the season this weekend. They will trickle out over the weekend at various times, so I suggest planning accordingly.

Saturday, Sep. 1: No. 6 Washington vs. No. 9 Auburn, 2:30 p.m., ABC

Saturday, Sep. 1: No. 12 Notre Dame vs. No. 14 Michigan, 6:30 p.m., NBC

Sunday, Sep. 2: No. 8 Miami vs. No. 25 LSU, 6:30 p.m., ABC

Monday, Sep. 3: No. 19 Florida State vs. No. 20 Virginia Tech, 7:00 p.m., ESPN

Happy college football season!
