Daily Bullets (Oct. 4): Basketball Captains Named, Jelani is a Rare Cat

On Mike Leach, Jelani Woods and Marcus Smart (oh and Matthew Wolff).

Mike Boynton has his Cs for 2018-19, and any day that Mike Leach is prominently featured in the Bulls is a great day. Let’s go.

Jelani, the Monster

I loved this from Marshall Scott on Jelani’s big move. A buddy of mine who has been an OSU fan longer than I have texted me the other day and said he thinks Jelani is the best NFL prospect OSU has on offense. I don’t know about that, but he makes (and Gundy agrees with) a good point about his body and the future.

Given his frame, Woods has the tools to be another OSU great at the mix between tight end and full back. The most difficult transition has obviously been blocking technique, but that’s expected.

“The blocking is going to come along slower,” OSU coach Mike Gundy said. “He was a quarterback, and all of a sudden, he’s in the trenches in the Big 12. That’s a very big jump. He’ll continue to improve, and that’s where he’s at right now. He just needs a lot of reps.

“There are only so many people that walk the face of the earth that are 6-foot-8 and weight 265 pounds that can somewhat control their body.” [PFB]

Wonder what his mom’s and dad’s DNA is like. Surprised Gundy didn’t break that down for me.

All the Sacks

OSU is already within striking distance of its school record of 43 sacks. Pokes have 24 (!) in five games.

OSU began keeping sacks as a statistic in 1981, and the team had at least 40 sacks in three of the next four years. But since setting the school record with 43 sacks in 1984, the Cowboys have reached the 40-sack mark only twice — in 1998 and 2015. [NewsOK – $]

Me when Michael Scott breaks the season record in Bedlam.

OSU and NCAA News

OSU’s self-reported secondary violations are kind of funny to read … This is really well done and seems like a fun idea for a sports blogThe untold story of the 1999 Red River Rivalry is a master class by Jake Trotter, amazing … Florida’s new helmets are p hot … Sounds like Bundage will be back for Iowa State.

A dude.

OSU named its captains for basketball season.

Jonathan Football’s first TD in the CFL? It went to Adarius Bowman.

This is kinda incredible.

Lol!

How is another human being this brilliant?

OSU only hires DCs who tweet multiple quotes a week.

Impressive.

Is there something you do every day that builds an asset for you? Every single day?

Every single day is a lot of days. It’s easy to look at the long run and lull yourself into skipping a day now and then. But the long run is made up of short runs. [Godin]

Well now that you mention it …
