Injury Update: Rodriguez Recovers from Hip Injury, Hambright Questionable Against K-State
One key Poke will play Saturday, but another might not.
Most coaches keep injury news close to the vest. Mike Gundy conceals such topics in his rib cage.
With that said, here’s what we know about a couple of Oklahoma State’s banged up players.
Malcolm Rodriguez — Hip
While he did play against Iowa State, sophomore safety Malcolm Rodriguez had dealt with a hip pointer.
On Monday, Gundy said Rodriguez was playing through quite a bit of pain against the Cyclones but that he get healthier throughout this week.
“He should be better this week,” Gundy said Monday. “Malcolm is playing with a lot of pain, so he’s not at a level to where he can consistently get really, really quality reps. He had a pretty significant injury that carries an enormous — enormous may be an exaggeration — but I would say very painful part to play in a game.”
On Tuesday, Rodriguez said he has gotten a lot healthier since OSU’s game against Kansas a few weeks ago.
“The training room does a good job of getting you out there, and they got me pretty healthy this last game,” Rodriguez said. “It didn’t affect me that bad this last game, but the Kansas game, it was hurting pretty bad.”
Arlington Hambright — Ankle
The Cowboys can use all the help they can get up front, but it’s uncertain whether left tackle Arlington Hambright will be back for the Cowboys game against Kansas State.
Hambright, who The Oklahoman’s Scott Wright reports is dealing with an ankle sprain, started at left tackle for OSU’s first five games. Teven Jenkins moved from right tackle to cover for Hambright against Iowa State. Shane Richards then filled in at right tackle. The result was a season-high seven sacks allowed.
“Might get (Hambright) back this week,” Gundy said Monday. “Not sure. Just depends on how he practices, and how he can do with his weight on his leg. We’ll see where he’s at.”
