Boynton After UT Win: ‘I’ve Never Felt More Proud of a Group’
Mike Boynton donned a hardhat and a hammer during postgame speech.
The Cowboys brought their hard hats to Gallagher-Iba Arena on Tuesday night, out-hustling, out-rebounding and out-working the visiting Longhorns to earn their first Big 12 win Of the season, 61-58.
During his postgame address of the team, Mike Boynton, who has become know for his props, brought his own hardhat and hammer apparently to signify his group’s hard work paying off.
“Guys, I’ve never felt more proud of a group than I do you guys right now,” said Boynton. “…What I did to you in terms of your schedule, was really set you up for failure. I set you up for failure.
“But I knew this team needed to be challenged cause we don’t win this game without having gone through what we’ve been through what we’ve been through for the last two and a half months.”
Owning KenPom’s No. 44-ranked nonconference strength of schedule (behind only OU and Kansas in the Big 12), the Cowboys began conference play just 6-6 and then dropped their first two conference games to Iowa State and the No. 23 Sooners.
The Cowboys will have a chance to string together consecutive conference wins on Saturday when they head to Morgantown — a place where OSU has won two straight — to take on West Virginia.
