Daily Bullets (July 31): Answers Coming for Gleeson, Win/Loss Expectations for 2019
“I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you.” ― Charles T. Munger

• Sean Gleeson laid a (potential) timeline for naming a quarterback in Stillwater – at least an internal timeline.
But Gleeson is ready to kick that gentleman-like business and get into it. Like really get into it.
“There’s a scrimmage 10 practices in. I would guess both kids would have enough opportunity after a spring where we kind of rotated and gave them equal opportunity,” he said. “Those 10 practices, I’m hoping they’re very competitive and less gentlemanly than the spring. Once we get there, we’ll either have an answer [at QB] or we won’t, but if not, it’s not because we’re playing games.” [PFB]
I reckon this is an increased level of interest and scrutiny from a media-perspective that Gleeson is finding himself on the other end of. Either way, it’s nice to have some sort of idea what the process could look like.
• Speaking of Sean Gleeson, seeing how he uses personnel and calls plays differently is really a fascinating angle to look forward to.
We’ll learn a lot more about Gleeson the first time the Cowboys face fourth-and-one at Oregon State. Really, the first time they face first-and-10.
How does he use his quarterback? How does he feed Chuba Hubbard? Where does he motion Tylan Wallace?
The football answers to Gleeson are coming. It’s just going to take another month to learn them. [TulsaWorld]
• GoPokes’ Bobby A. looked at the general win/loss expectations for Cowboy Football this season – I’m fascinated by what OKC Dave’s annual survey shows.
For Oklahoma State this season the expectations outside of Stillwater and the Oklahoma State family are anywhere from third in the Big 12 to sixth in the conference. A lot of it depends on how much faith the observer or expert has in Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy… more observers and experts were feeling better about Oklahoma State. Nobody expects the Cowboys to win the Big 12 or even finish second. Las Vegas has an 8.5 over and under on wins for the team. That is strictly third of fourth place material. [GoPokes]
Third or fourth seems like a reasonable take with all of the coaching turnover for the other middle-of-the-pack teams and Baylor still recovering from Briles-gate.
With tomorrow being the first day of August, it’s fair game to start discussing in my lunches with buddies, right?

• Good commentary here on how OSU (and OU) appear to be avoiding the 11 a.m. kickoffs so far this fall (first three weeks are announced – neither team has an 11 a.m. kickoff)

• We’ve got OSU Fan Day coming up on Saturday afternoon – get in line early if you want to have the fastest Canadian in Oklahoma sign a ball.
Please note, I’m referring to Chuba Hubbard as the fastest from Canada the country, not the county in Oklahoma, while the comment likely applies to both.
