Cowboys Absent From Preseason Coaches Poll but Did Receive Votes
Where do teams fall in the Preseason Coaches Poll?
The preseason coaches poll is out, and Oklahoma State isn’t on it.
To no one’s surprise, Clemson and Alabama take up the first two spots of USA Today’s preseason Amway Coaches Poll. Last season, the Cowboys started the year 25th in the poll, but they won’t start there this year after their 7-6 2018 season.
Although the Pokes aren’t in the Top 25, OSU is in the receiving votes portion, picking up 20 points. That would put them ranked 41st if the poll extended that far.
It’s the first time OSU hasn’t been in the preseason coaches poll since 2015, another season after the Cowboys went 7-6.
The Big 12 has three schools in the preseason Top 25: Oklahoma at No. 4, Texas at No. 10 and Iowa State and No. 24. Five Big 12 programs have representatives on the board of 65 coaches for the 2019 poll, as Baylor’s Matt Rhule, Texas’ Tom Herman, Texas Tech’s Matt Wells, West Virginia’s Neal Brown and TCU’s Gary Patterson all have votes this season.
