Kolby Harvell-Peel Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
A Cowboy named Player of the Week for consecutive weeks.
After his big game in Austin, sophomore safety Kolby Harvell-Peel earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the Big 12.
Harvell-Peel finished second on the team with nine total tackles (six solo), forced the second fumble of his season and recovered a fumble.
His highlight on the night, however, was the result of being in the right place at the right time, and his ball-hawking ability.
Thanks in part to tip by Rodarius Williams, KHP ended Sam Ehlinger’s streak of 161 pass attempts without an interception, the first pick of Harvell-Peel’s career.
Harvell-Peel is the first Cowboy to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors so far this season but, with Chuba Hubbard, makes back-to-back Player of the Week honors for OSU. KHP is the first member of the Cowboys secondary to earn such an honor since Larry Stephens did all the way back in 2014 for his Bedlam exploits in Norman.
KHP played all 13 games, and made an impact, as a true freshman last year. Just four games into his sophomore campaign, he leads all underclassmen and ranks third on the team in total tackles (27), is second in solo grabs (19) and leads the team in forced fumbles (2). He also has two pass breakups, a tackle for loss and a sack.
