Top Five Oklahoma State Storylines from the NFL’s Week 8
Chris Carson runs mean, Rudolph shakes off the rust.
It was an eventful week for several former Cowboys in the NFL, let’s take a look at the top five storylines for Pokes in the pros.
1. Rudolph Rebounds After Rough Start
Mason Rudolph returned from a three-week absence following his concussion and Pittsburgh’s bye week, but showed a little bit of rust on Monday night. Â
Rudolph was actually a reviewed reversal away from throwing two interceptions in his first four passes and found his Steelers down 14-0 to the winless Dolphins. But he was able to get into rhythm and dug the Steelers out of the hole throwing for a new career-mark 251 yards and two touchdowns.
And he did it with the long ball.
James Washington was able to haul in just one of his six targets on the night for 21 yards. But he did earn a little street cred with the coaching staff with this nasty block at the goal line.

2. Chris Carson Runs Mean
Since missing the majority of this rookie season with a leg injury, Carson has been among the most productive rushers in the NFL.

Carson, who finished fifth in the NFL rushing last season, is on pace for the same finish as he currently ranks No. 5 in rushing yards at 659 through eight games.
He added to that total on Sunday, as the Seahawks beat the Falcons on the road 27-20. Carson recorded 90 yards on 20 carries including a couple of violent plays from scrimmage.
He had this one with a broken tackle followed by a truck-stick.

Fellow Seahawk and former Cowboy, Tre Flowers was inactive due to a neck injury.

After his crucial third-and-goal sack of Aaron Rodgers on Sunday night, Ogbah’s sack total sits at 4.5, the most among Chiefs despite starting just two games in Kansas City. He’s just one away from his season-best mark of 5.5.
Ogbah ended the night with four total tackles, a tackle of loss and that sack of Rodgers, but the Chiefs would fall to 5-3 sans their quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
4. Russell Okung Makes 2019 Debut
The former OSU All-American and first-round pick made his 2019 debut on Sunday in the Chargers’ 17-16 win over the Bears. He was sidelined for the first seven weeks of the season after being diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism in June, a serious medical condition that put his football career in jeopardy.
In his absence, Los Angeles started 2-5 and Philip Rivers, whose blindside Okung is in charge of protecting, was sacked 13 times.
Okung returned to practice two weeks ago and was able to make his return on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. His first assignment? Lining up opposite four-time Pro Bowler Khalil Mack who he successfully staved off from his QB.
It wasn’t all smoothing sailing. Okung left in the fourth quarter with a calf injury, and Rivers was subsequently sacked for the first time all day — at the hands of Mack.
5. Raiders Waive Justin Phillips Following Season-Ending Injury
The rookie linebacker saw action on special teams in four games this season with the Raiders, including four total tackles two weeks ago during the Raiders’ loss to the Packers.
But after seeing a season-high 21 snaps on special teams on Sunday, an injury ended Phillip’s short tenure in the Bay area.
Gruden says Justin Phillips has a knee injury and is out for the season. Raiders will look to shore up the LB spot in the next 48 hours.

On Monday, Phillips was waived by Oakland, who signed linebacker Brandon Marshall in a corresponding move. Phillips suffered a knee injury that will reportedly will end his 2019 season.
