Porter’s Notebook: Oklahoma State-TCU
Some wild stats from Stillwater on Saturday in here.
I emptied my 10 thoughts here, but it’s time to take you through the rest of my in-game notebook as I watched (on television) and took notes on OSU’s first two-game winning streak in the Big 12 since October 2017.
Let’s go.
• What’s the last Saturday in November that included just two Big 12 games?
• Olivia Dekker is married to Sam Dekker and the daughter of Kevin Harlan. Had no idea.
• It’s not good.

• I love that OSU swung Landon Wolf and Dillon Stoner out wide on passing plays early on. Been hollering about Chuba doing that, but Stonewolf accomplishes the same thing.
• Ewing Theory in full effect early. (this would change)
• We make fun of field goals, sure, but here’s a thought: If you kick a field goal on every single possession, you have a top-15 offense nationally in points per drive.
• I do not enjoy reporting this, but I like the Baker commercial where he has to get his wife lemonade inside the stadium. It’s a good commercial. Also his best performance in that stadium all year.
• KHP’s yellow paci replaced Tre Sterling’s blue paci this week as the paci of the week.
• Do what?

• Lol at this.

• They’re really good. Especially without the barbed wire.

• 88 for TCU is a monster. A Jelani facsimile.
• Sanders had two hands on the ball so often I’m sort of surprised he didn’t try to throw it with both hands.
• My biggest issue with Sanders rushing it as much as he did, by the way, is mostly because it felt like they looked through the playbook and thought, “Welp, I guess 3 is running it again.” I don’t know that I need every play to be a called QB run (feels like Gleeson is a little more creative than that). Gundy did say this was on purpose because of how TCU was playing them defensively though.
• The best part about this is two TCU guys taking each other out after Sanders gets away from both of them.
The pass game without Tylan won't work they said. Sanders only has one plan they said. Chuba will get 59 carries they said. ?☕️ pic.twitter.com/WaGzF9ZzB1

• This was well said by Doug D. on Stoner’s second TD: Probably not a catch, but an appropriate non-reversal.
• This is basically a shutout in the Big 12.
#okstate TCU's touchdown was the first allowed by the OSU defense in 31.5 game minutes.

• I wish Sanders would dump it to Chuba more often. It feels like that’s such an underutilized offensive weapon for OSU this season.
• Wat?

• Duggan’s clapping routine at QB was irrationally annoying to me.
• Pro Wells is 88. That’s a fitting name.
• OSU had 6 rush yards in the 2nd quarter. That seems not ideal. Related: Chuba had just 31 yards over the first 30 minutes.
• Good point here in the Chamber on our gameday thread: That is at least the 3rd time we have come up short on 3rd down by less than a yard…just killers. Felt like OSU had 4-5 times they legit could have gone for it on 4th down and it wouldn’t have been crazy.
• TCU’s uniforms ▶️ ?

• You would have to pay me silly amounts of money to be on the CFP committee. It’s impossible to rank the Big 12 teams. Imagine doing it for every team in the nation and trying to figure out a top 25.
• Right before Chuba went 92 yards to the house I thought, “This game needs some juice.” It got the juice.
• My favorite OSU games are 2:30 affairs before the time changes but when the sun sets before it’s over. All of the college memories. Also Gundy rocking the shades in the dark 4ever.

• The fixed cameras all over the stadium are odd. Have those always been there? Do they provide value? Am I an #olds?
• I knew Ammendola would miss this week after Carson and I talked about the record for best make percentage by a kicker in a single season. Blame me. I’ll take it.
• ESPN just played The Rant. It never gets old. It actually gets (quite a bit) better with time.
• I cannot believe that Olivia Dekker brought up that Mike Gundy and Sean Gleeson both said they’re constantly competing for the attention of their players with their players’ phones. (I can definitely believe this).
• Malcolm Rodriguez is such a good college player. A pro? I don’t know, but he’s a fun, solid four-year college guy. So fun to watch.
• Duggan looks like Austin Eckroat (my wife says I’m horrible at this game).

• I’m holding up four fingers in my shed in anticipation of the final quarter.
• Not really.
• That Braydon Johnson catch was all the. LOLs. I don’t care how much he pushed off. Like …. what?
• OSU has just 55 penalties through nine games. They had 68 at this point last season.
• How about Tyrell Alexander getting PT on offense? But no C.J. Moore?
• Love this idea from the Chamber: I really wish they added a rule where they could pick up the flag if the play ends up being great. “After further review, Sanders balled out, there is no penalty on the play.”
• Think about how much a silly thing like an illegal shift — which didn’t affect Sanders’ TD at all — affects the game, season and in a small way, the trajectory of different programs. Not that they shouldn’t have called it, but it’s wild how such a small movement (literally) changes the outcome of so many people.
• I love Reagor. Definitely a dude. Totally subscribed. Rich man’s McCleskey.
• Braydon Johnson is averaging 28 yards a catch. He has the third-most yards on the team on nine receptions.
• This is sick. ™️Josh Stewart

• The flag on McCalister hooking Wells in the end zone, if it had been any later, it would have been after the game ended.
• A TCU QB stuffed at the goal line on the west end of BPS. Never heard of it.
• Who sweats more: Tiger at a major in August in Tulsa or Gary Patterson on [literally pick any day of the year].
• McCray is getting abused today. You hate to see it.
• Cannot stop laughing at this.

• Remember when I picked Tyler Lacy for defensive POY for OSU? I am a moron (as always).
• Yes!

• I … think Duggan got his finger snapped late in the game by Trace Ford. The way he ran off was not good at all. I kind of like him though. Not sure if he’s a dude. But I’m a fan.
• Chuba’s 92-yard job was the longest rush allowed by the TCU defense since a 95-yard rush in the 1993 season. Chuba King.
• How about this one from OSU’s media relations: Oklahoma State entered the game leading the nation in 50-yard plays from scrimmage with 15 this season. OSU added three such plays against TCU to bring the season total to 18.
• Also, this has to be a record: Oklahoma State has scored on a play of 60 yards or longer in five consecutive games.
• Fewest pass attempts in the Gundy era …
- Missouri State (2008): 10
- Texas A&M (2008): 14
- Baylor (2006): 15
- TCU (2019): 15
