Cade Cunningham Named McDonald’s All-American
Cade Cunningham becomes the eighth Cowboy with the honor.
Before even stepping on campus, Cade Cunningham joins the likes of Marcus Smart and Jawun Evans as future Cowboys named McDonald’s All-Americans.
To no one’s surprise Cunningham was among the 24 McDonald’s All-Americans announced Thursday, making him the first future Oklahoma State player to make the most prestigious All-American game in high school basketball since Evans made the 2015 roster.
There are two ways to look at this, but Cunningham is either the seventh or the eighth OSU player to earn the status. Gerald Green was an OSU commit in 2005 before his stock ballooned and he went straight to the NBA.
Player | Year |
---|---|
Glendon Alexander | 1996 |
Byron Eaton | 2005 |
Gerald Green | 2005 |
James Anderson | 2007 |
Le’Bryan Nash | 2011 |
Marcus Smart | 2012 |
Jawun Evans | 2015 |
Cade Cunningham | 2020 |
Cunningham is the No. 2 prospect in the 2020 class, trailing only USC commit Evan Mobley, who also made the game. ESPN projects Cunningham as the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
A 6-foot-7 point guard, Cunningham was the MVP of the Nike EYBL circuit this past summer after averaging 23.8 points (59.2 percent shooting), seven rebounds and 5.7 assists with the Texas Titans. His preps team, Montverde Academy, is the No. 1 high school team in the country at 19-0 this season. Three players from Montverde were named McDonald’s All-Americans.
Other names on the roster OSU fans might be familiar with are Bryce Thompson and Isaiah Todd. Both took visits to Stillwater before choosing different schools. Thompson, out of Booker T. Washington in Tulsa, is headed to Kansas, and Todd will be a Michigan Wolverine.
