Kalib Boone Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week
Boone bags an honor after his career day against Tech.
For the first time this year, the Cowboys have a weekly honoree.
Freshman big man Kalib Boone was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday after he averaged 11 points and 3.5 rebounds in Oklahoma State’s first two-win week during league play.
Boone had a career day in Saturday’s upset win against No. 24 Texas Tech. He scored 16 points, 12 of which came from the foul line. He also brought in four boards and had three blocks.
“The sky is the limit to me; that’s what I think,” Boone said after Saturday’s game. “I think any time I go on the court, I’m the best player in my position out there. I don’t try to be the best player on the court because that’s not when I’m at my best. My role is to be … my mindset is to think I’m the best player at my position.”
Saturday was the fourth time this season Boone scored in double figures, but the second in the past two weeks.
In Boone’s first 18 college basketball games, he was just a combined 5-for-10 from the foul line, but since Jan. 27 (the past six games) he is 18-for-22 from the stripe.
