Iowa Beats Oklahoma State 34-6 in Carver Hawkeye Arena
Wyatt Sheets scores big upset as the Cowboys fall to No. 1 ranked Iowa
The Cowboys were up against a tough one on Sunday night in Iowa. The Cowboys, in a bit of a rebuilding year, took on the top-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa city — and they didn’t bode well.
It started off with the fifth match in the series between Nick Piccininni and Spencer Lee. Oklahoma State fans were hoping for a repeat of last year’s heroics when Piccininni pinned Lee in front of a sellout crowd in Gallagher-Iba Arena. That didn’t happen as Lee rolled to a major decision 12-3 over Piccininni.
Iowa rolled in the next few matches picking up a fall at 133, then a major at 141. Most had 149 projected to be the bout of the night with Boo Lewallen and second-ranked Pat Lugo. The two battled on their feet for a bit then Lugo hooked up these double underhooks and threw and pinned Boo in the first period.
Did you really think Pat Lugo was gonna end his career at Carver any other way?

At 157 Wyatt Sheets picked up the first win of the night for the Cowboys over fourth-ranked Kaleb Young. After Sheets went 0-2 his last weekend in Iowa when the Cowboys wrestled UNI and Iowa State, Sheets has rattled off six straight wins with the last two coming over ranked opponents.
The 165 match came down to the last few seconds as Travis Wittlake and second-ranked Alex Marinelli battled on their feet for most of the bout then in the final seconds. Marinelli picked up a takedown and took the bout 3-2. At 174 Michael Kemerer majored Joe Smith 12-2 to put Iowa up 27-3.
At 184 Anthony Montalvo picked up the second win of the dual for the Cowboys with an 8-2 decision. Brands managed to get in on a few shots, but was never able to finish Montalvo picked up a few takedowns to work his way to a fairly comfortable win.
Iowa closed out the dual with a decision at 197 and a major at heavyweight to win the dual 34-6.
Next up for the Cowboys is the Big 12 tournament in Tulsa in two weeks.
