Former OSU Cornerback Target Jahdae Barron Requests Release from Baylor

This could be good news for CB-needy OSU.

A four-star cornerback from the Class of 2020 is back on the market, potentially to the benefit of Oklahoma State.

On Wednesday, Baylor signee Jahdae Barron announced that he’s requested his release from Baylor and is on the hunt for another school. Barron is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound recruit who originally committed and signed with Baylor last year over Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State signed three high school corners as part of its 2020 recruiting class and is enrolling Missouri grad transfer Christian Holmes, who is eligible immediately, but adding Barron to the mix would be a boon. He was rated as the No. 348 overall prospect in 2020, which would make him the second-highest rated signee in the 2020 class for OSU if he were to commit.

Barron originally committed to TCU early in the recruiting process before backing off that pledge and subsequently committing and signing with Baylor. OSU offered a day after his TCU commitment initially, and subsequently landed an official visit but never secured his commitment.

Worth remembering, too: Barron didn’t sign up for the Baylor program he’s now involved with, which could potentially allow for him to be granted a full release with immediate eligibility. He committed and signed with Baylor when it was run by Matt Rhule, who this offseason joined the Carolina Panthers as its head coach.

OSU is losing Rodarius Williams and Christian Holmes after this upcoming season — two potential starters — which could equate to an enticing recruiting pitch for Barron to join the Cowboys program he once spurned.
