Former Cowboy Wrestler Gerald Brisco Released From the WWE
Vince McMahon informed the WWE HOFer his 36 year career with the company will be ending.
Former Oklahoma State wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco has been released by Vince McMahon and the WWE.
Brisco has had a long and storied career in professional wrestling that dates back to the 1960s. He and his brother, 1965 NCAA Champion Jack Brisco, dominated the NWA as a tag team for some time.
Jack and Gerald became shareholders in Georgia Championship Wrestling and eventually sold their shares to Vince McMahon, which set up McMahon with a television spot that allowed him to expand what is now the WWE into the powerhouse organization that it currently is.
After selling to McMahon, Brisco went to work for him and performed as on-air talent, a scout, and in numerous other roles in the company over the years. For folks my age he’s probably best remembered as being McMahon’s “stooge” in the 1990s, a role he reprised recently in a RAW reunion show.
More recently Gerald’s role with the WWE has been primarily focused on scouting amateur wrestlers. His scouting extends beyond amateur wrestling as he’s linked Hulk Hogan and many others up with the company, but notably he brought in superstars Brock Lesnar, Sheldon Benjamin, Nikola Bogojevic AKA Otis, and others.
One of his more recent prospects is Jakob Kasper.
This is a loss for the amateur wrestling community as Brisco has segued a number of high level amateur wrestlers into professional careers. Brisco was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Florida Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018.
