10 Stats to Know Following OSU’s 20-18 Win Over Kansas State
Some interesting figures from OSU’s comeback win.
Oklahoma State scored zero points in the first half on Saturday against Kansas State but outscored the Wildcats 20-6 in a fast and furious second half comeback to improve to 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play headed into a bye week.
Below are 10 relevant stats to know.
• Oklahoma State is 24-9 in its last 33 games in games decided by fewer than 10 points.
• OSU had 14 rushing attempts for nine yards in the first half but finished the rest of the game with 148 yards rushing on 40 total attempts, thanks to a breakout third quarter in which the Pokes rushed for 117 yards.
• Oklahoma State has held its last nine (!) Big 12 opponents under their season scoring average, a trend that validates the late-season surge from the defense last season and the strong start this season. (Kansas State entered the game averaging 31 points per game.)
• In the Mike Gundy era, OSU is 40-3 when it does not commit a turnover. Since 2008, OSU is 63-7 when it wins the turnover battle.
• Bixby product Brennan Presley scored his first career touchdown Saturday, becoming the first true freshman to score since J.D. King in 2018. He scored 25 times as a senior a year ago on 116 touches for the Spartans. (Feed this man touches!)
• Senior cornerback Rodarius Williams has made 45 consecutive starts, tied for the second-longest streak in school history and trailing only Russell Okung.
• LD Brown rushed for 110 yards on 15 carries against Kansas State, marking his third career 100-plus yard rushing outing. His other two such performances came against West Virginia earlier this season and against Missouri State in 2018, where he rushed for 110 yards thanks to a 77-yard scamper and score.
• Dillon Stoner, who led OSU in receiving with seven receptions for 62 yards, has at least one catch in 43 of his last 44 games.
• Five OSU players — three on defense and two on offense — made their first starts of the 2020 season: Offensive lineman Preston Wilson, receiver Landon Wolf, defensive linemen Brock Martin and Israel Antwine, and linebacker Devin Harper.
• Tylan Wallace played one snap in the game — and it was on special teams. As Kansas State attempted an onside kick, Wallace deflected the ball out of bounds and OSU retained possession.
