2027 Edge Rusher Jayden Vessell Commits to Oklahoma State
OSU picks up an edge rusher from Louisiana.
It had been a minute since the Cowboys picked up a commit, but a defensive lineman from the Bayou State pledged to the Pokes on Wednesday.
Jayden Vessell, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive linemen announced his commitment to Oklahoma State. He pledged to the Cowboys over offers from North Texas, Arkansas State, UNLV, Tulane and others.

Out of Baton Rouge Catholic High School, Vessell isn’t yet ranked by the major recruiting services, but he took a trip to Stillwater for the Cowboys’ spring game, announcing his OSU offer after the fact.
His Catholic Bears made it to the semifinals of the Louisiana Division-I Select playoffs this past season before losing to eventual state champs Edna Karr. Catholic finished the year 10-3. Vessell was a All-District First Team selection and Second Team All-State selection as a junior, and viewing his highlights, it’s easy to see why.
His quickness appears to be a problem for many right tackles in Louisiana, but even when they are able to get hands on him, there are highlights of him bull rushing a lineman to the ground before finding the ball carrier.
Vessell becomes the 11th commit in the Cowboys’ 2027 recruiting class and is just the fourth defender to join the fold along with linebacker Israel Hammons (Choctaw, OK), safety Bryson Brown (Broken Arrow, OK) and safety Chayce Davis (Euless, Texas).
With Vessell not yet appearing in the rankings, his commitment doesn’t boost the Cowboys’ standing in the team rankings, but usually it’s only a matter of time between when an unranked guy commits to a Power Conference program and when he gets a ranking.
As for now, the Cowboys’ class ranks 82nd nationally and last in the Big 12, but some of that has to do more with quantity instead of quality. All 81 teams above the Cowboys in the national rankings have more pledges than the Pokes.
