Four-star OL Jaeden Roberts Decommits from Auburn

Four-star offensive line recruit Jaeden Roberts, a 6-foot-5, 340-pound guard from Houston North Shore High School, decommitted from Auburn on Wednesday — the first day of the December signing period.

We tabbed Roberts as a potential target for OSU earlier this week when discussing the fallout of the program’s decision to part ways with long-time coach Gus Malzahn, and indeed that was in part why he said he opened his recruitment back up.

“With the recent decision to hire a new coach at Auburn University, my parents and I sat down and decided it would be in my best interest to reopen my recruitment and find a school that would fit me,” he said on Twitter.

Roberts’ relationship with Oklahoma State goes way back, which could boost the Pokes’ prospects here as a potential landing spot. The staff offered him a scholarship long ago and was considered to be one of his finalists before he pledged to Auburn back in May.

A lot has changed since then — OSU has built out a nice class up front led by offensive line coach Charlie Dickey — but it seems likely OSU would make room for him in the 2021 class if he flashed the bat signal. (340-pound offensive guards don’t come around often.) That existing relationship combined with his desire to find a new spot could ultimately be key.

“There are a lot of coaches who have had success with linemen but with Coach Dickey, I know for sure he can help me progress and develop into the level of talent I know I can be at,” Roberts told SI earlier this year after an OSU visit but before his Auburn commitment. “I feel like I can reach a high peak in my career, and I know Coach Dickey can get me there.”
