Report: Five-Star Center Decommits from Michigan State, OSU Reaches Out

Mike Boynton is after another Canadian.

Enoch Boakye, a 6-foot-10 class of 2022 center, decommitted from Michigan State, and Oklahoma State was among the first programs to reach out, according to 247Sports analyst Travis Branham. Other programs who have reached out are Duke, Kentucky, Texas Tech and others, so there’s some stiff competition for the Cowboys.

Although Boakye is listed in the 2022 class, many national recruiting analyst have mentioned the possibility of him reclassifying into the 2021 class.

Boakye is the No. 32 player in the 2022 class, according to the composite ranking. 247Sports has him as the No. 20 player in the class and a five-star prospect.

He is a big-bodied center at 6-10, 240 pounds. Josh Gershon, a 247Sports analyst, projected him as a future first-round NBA Draft pick.

Talented center with an extremely high upside. Impressive frame with wide shoulders and long arms to go with pretty good hands for a young post. Has legitimate body control and ball skills for the position; can grab rebound and start break. Plus athlete and force around the basket due to sheer size and motor. Could improve his post moves and touch. Has upside as rim protector. Floor is college starter but has easy NBA upside.

Boakye committed to Michigan State July 28, over offers from OSU, Arizona, Texas A&M and others.

There is a link for Boakye to Stillwater, even if it is loose. He is from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. That’s the same home province of OSU freshman forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe.

With the talent Boakye possesses, it’s likely OSU would take him in either the 2021 or 2022 class.

For myriad reasons, OSU coach Mike Boynton doesn’t yet have a 2021 commit. The Cowboys are the only program in the Big 12 without a 2021 commitment. Among the reasonings Boynton is being cautious with the 2021 class are that he hasn’t been able to recruit kids face-to-face and build relationships with them. Then there’s the pending scholarship sanctions over the program and the pandemic-caused eligibility waiver that allows all of his players to return next season if they so choose.
