UNLV Specialist Tanner Brown Transferring to OSU
Cowboys secure a potential replacement for departed kicker Jake McClure.
The Cowboys added a proven producer, in a place of need, to their special teams unit on Monday when kicker Tanner Brown committed to Oklahoma State.
Brown is transferring from UNLV.
OSU offered Brown back in January a month after he entered the transfer portal.
Brown spent last season at UNLV after transferring from College of the Canyons where he earned junior college All-American honors before walking on in Vegas.
In 2020, Brown exclusively handled the Rebels’ kickoff duties, booting it off the tee 24 times with only one touchback and none of those balls going out-of-bounds. He was also the team’s No. 2 punter, dropkicking it 12 times for average of 45.5 yards per punt.
Jake McClure, who was the Cowboys’ main kickoff specialist, announced in December that he would be leaving OSU, degree in-hand. McClure also handled backup punting duties for Tom Hutton in 2020, so Brown could potentially step right in and fill the void he left.
