Cowboys Picked Fourth in Preseason Media Poll
The Cowboys get put behind OU, ISU and UT.
The Cowboys have some work to do to make it to the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, at least according to the media.
The Big 12 released its 2021 preseason media poll Thursday, where Oklahoma State was fourth. That put the Cowboys behind Oklahoma, Iowa State and Texas.
| No. | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Oklahoma (35) | 386 |
| 2 | Iowa State (4) | 351 |
| 3 | Texas | 273 |
| 4 | Oklahoma State | 266 |
| 5 | TCU | 255 |
| 6 | West Virginia | 185 |
| 7 | Kansas State | 163 |
| 8 | Baylor | 124 |
| 9 | Texas Tech | 103 |
| 10 | Kansas | 39 |
The Cowboys were picked to finish second in last year’s rendition of the preseason poll and went on to finish fourth in the conference standings. In 2019, OSU was picked fifth in the preseason poll and finished fourth.
It’s the sixth straight season OU has been picked to win the Big 12. The Sooners have won the past six conference titles.
Iowa State was the only other team to receive a first-place vote, receiving only four. The Cyclones return a lot from their Big 12 runner-up team from last season including star QB Brock Purdy.
The top two teams at the end of the regular season will play in the Big 12 Championship on Dec. 4 in AT&T Stadium.
