Five-Star Big Man Ugonna Kingsley Onyenso Set to Visit Oklahoma State
New to the United State, Onyenso is flying up the recruiting rankings.
The Cowboys will host a late (but ever intriguing) addition to the 2023 class this week.
Ugonna Kingsley Onyenso, a 7-foot center, is set to visit Stillwater, according to Andrew Slater. From Nigeria, Onyenso recently moved to the United States from the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal.
He is just starting to break into the recruiting rankings, debuting at No. 41 in the composite rankings May 26 before climbing up to No. 23 in the most recent update. Some are even higher on Onyenso, as On3 lists him as the No. 5 player in the class. Here is a look at him on the major recruiting services:
247Sports Composite: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / No. 23
247Sports: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / No. 22
Rivals: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / No. 26
On3: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / No. 5
ESPN: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / No. 36
There are a few ins here that Oklahoma State’s staff could draw to. Firstly, there are already two centers from Africa on the Cowboys’ roster in Moussa Cisse (Guinea) and Bernard Kouma (Chad). The high school Onyenso has since moved to is Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. OSU coach Mike Boynton and assistant Terrence Rencher are from New York and have ties to the Northeast. Onyenso plays AAU ball with the New York Jayhawks on the Adidas circuit.
Still, this recruitment won’t be easy. Onyenso has a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction to Kentucky by national analyst Travis Branham, who is 13-for-13 on 2023 predictions thus far. With that said, Slater is reported that Oklahoma State is getting Onyenso’s first visit while he is working to set up others. A good first impression could go a long way.
