The Cowboys bolstered their 3-point shooting in a big way Saturday.

North Florida transfer guard Jarius Hicklen committed to Oklahoma State after spending two seasons with the Ospreys in which he scored 12.2 points a game and shot 38% from 3-point range. Hicklen is listed at 6-foot-3 and should have one season of eligibility left.

Hicklen started all 31 of the Ospreys games this past season, averaging 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and a steal a game. His assist tally and his 3-point shooting should make him a solid fit in Stillwater, as those were both areas of need for Mike Boynton this offseason.

He put up a season-high 25 points in North Florida’s final game of the year, a ASUN Tournament loss to Bellarmine. In that game, Hicklen went 7-for-11 from 3-point range. He has also scored well against high-major competition, dropping 27 against Florida State in the 2021-22 season, going 6-for-12 from deep. He scored 17 points against Kentucky this past season, going 4-for-8 from 3.

This won’t be Hicklen’s first time in Oklahoma. Before his time with North Florida, Hicklen spent two seasons with Oklahoma Baptist. With the Bison, Hicklen averaged 16.2 points a game as a sophomore while shooting 42% from 3. His season-high that year was the 31 points he put up against Southwestern Oklahoma State.

A DeSoto, Texas native, Hicklen was his district’s player of the year as a high school senior.

Hicklen becomes the third player OSU has pulled from the transfer portal this offseason, joining Javon Small (East Carolina) and Mike Marsh (Jacksonville). With Hicklen’s addition, Boynton has two scholarships still available, though he could burn one to finish off NCAA sanctions.
