Oklahoma State Quarterback Gunnar Gundy Reportedly Enters Transfer Portal
Didn’t see that one coming.
With as crazy as the transfer portal has been the past few years, there shouldn’t be many surprises anymore, but there was one Wednesday.
Oklahoma State quarterback Gunnar Gundy entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, according to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer. That’s right, the son of OSU coach Mike Gundy is in the portal.
Gunnar was part of OSU’s three-quarterback system in the Cowboys’ nonconference games. He completed 62% of his passes this season for 202 yards and a touchdown. Also a threat with his feet, Gunnar ran for 39 yards this season. He also played for an injured Spencer Sanders during the Cowboys’ 2022 season, where he threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing four interceptions.
Electing to walk on at OSU, Gunnar had offers to Toledo and Eastern Michigan out of Stillwater High School.
OSU’s quarterback situation entering 2024 is an interesting one. The Cowboys, for now, have Garret Rangel and Zane Flores able to return, but there have been talks about starter Alan Bowman applying for another year of eligibility, so that’s certainly a possibility. The Cowboys also have California quarterback Maealiuaki Smith committed in their recruiting class.
Gunnar becomes just the third Cowboy to enter the portal since it opened on Monday, joining Lardarius Webb Jr. and Ricky Lolohea (who hasn’t been with the team for some time).
