Former Florida International Point Guard Arturo Dean Visits OSU

Steve Lutz is still on the hunt for “the right people” to fill out his roster, and he hosted a potential game-changer on Tuesday.

Former Florida International point guard Arturo Dean posted about his Tuesday visit to Stillwater via his Instagram.

Dean is a 5-foot-11, 163-pound point guard ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 161 transfer portal prospect, per 247Sports. The Miami native, who was unranked as a high school prospect, didn’t travel far from home and didn’t take long to make an impact at FIU.

In each of his two seasons with the Panthers, Dean scored in double digits. He earned the starting job 10 games into his freshman year and never relinquished it, earning Conference USA Rookie of the Year and inclusion on both the All-Defense and All-Freshman teams.

Over his career, Dean has done nothing but stuff the box score and rack up hardware. After averaging 11.9 points in 2022-23, Dean scored 13.4 last season. His assists went from 3.8 to 4.0, his rebounds increased from 4.1 to 5.1, and he went from leading the conference with 2.5 steals per game to leading the NCAA with 3.4 last year. Though his turnover numbers also increased from third in the league to leading the conference last season.

Dean was again named to the Conference USA All-Defense team, as well as the All-CSU third team last year.

Lutz spoke recently about avoiding the “shotgun” approach to recruiting but rather taking his time and securing the “right people.”

OSU has three returning scholarship players from last season in Bryce Thompson, Jamyron Keller and Connor Dow, as well as incoming high school recruit Jeremiah Johnson, who reaffirmed his commitment on Monday.

While there are plenty of open spots on the Cowboys’ roster, you’d be hard pressed to find a team that wouldn’t benefit from Dean’s impact and talent.
