The best football player in the world right now came through Stillwater.

Former Oklahoma State receiver Tyreek Hill on Friday night was tabbed as the No. 1 player in the NFL on the NFL Top 100 list, which is voted on by players from the league. Hill, now with the Miami Dolphins, is the first receiver to ever receive the top spot in the ranking’s 14-year history.

Hill is coming off a nearly historical 2023 season. He was just shy of breaking Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving record of 1,964 yards, but an ankle injury ultimately left Hill short of the mark after missing the last game of the regular season. Hill, though, still led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns while pulling in 119 receptions despite playing one less game.

After two seasons at Garden City Community College in Kansas, Hill transferred to OSU to play football and run track, which he also did in community college. He was in Stillwater for only one season in 2014 before being dismissed from the team after being arrested for domestic violence. He then transferred to West Alabama.

Hill never really caught fire with the Cowboys despite the tremendous talent. He was used as a receiver, running back and return man. He caught 31 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown while rushing the ball 102 times for 534 yards and a score, averaging 5.2 yards a carry. Hill was named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year after the season.

He thrived on special teams, though, racking up 996 return yards and three touchdowns. Hill most notably returned a punt for a 92-yard touchdown to send Bedlam to overtime, ultimately leading to an OSU victory and pushing the Pokes to bowl eligibility.
