The first major poll of the 2024 college football season is here, and the Cowboys are unsurprisingly on it.

Oklahoma State came in at No. 18 in the preseason coaches poll that dropped on Monday. That puts the Pokes third among Big 12 teams behind No. 13 Utah and No. 17 Kansas State. Arizona (21) and Kansas (24) also made the poll while West Virginia, Iowa State, UCF, Texas Tech, and Colorado were all in the receiving votes category.

Here is a look at the full top 25:

Team
1 Georgia (46)
2 Ohio State (7)
3 Oregon
4 Texas (1)
5 Alabama
6 Ole Miss
7 Notre Dame
8 Michigan (1)
9 Penn State
10 Florida State
11 Missouri
12 LSU
13 Utah
14 Clemson
15 Tennessee
16 Oklahoma
17 Kansas State
18 Oklahoma State
19 Miami (FL)
20 Texas A&M
21 Arizona
22 NC State
23 USC
24 Kansas
25 Iowa

The top half of the poll is dominated by the SEC and Big Ten. Those two conference account for the entire top five, eight of the top 10 and 10 of the top dozen. Notre Dame is the first team to break up the two-conference party at No. 7 before the ACC’s Florida State comes in at No. 10.

Freshly out of the Big 12, Texas and Oklahoma are both in the ranking with the Longhorns coming in at No. 4 and the Sooners at No. 16.

OSU starts its season this month — an Aug. 31 clash with two-time defending FCS champion South Dakota State. The Cowboys and Jackrabbits play at 1:30 p.m. that day in Boone Pickens Stadium.
