Oklahoma State climbed three spots in both major Top 25 rankings released on Sunday thanks to its comeback win over Arkansas. The Cowboys land at 13th in the AP and14th in the Coaches poll, respectively.

The Cowboys didn’t exactly come out of Saturday’s win smelling of roses. But if you consider some of the other ranked teams that were put on upset alert, the Pokes should count themselves lucky. We’ll get into which teams fell to help pave the way for the Cowboys’ climb but first let’s take a look at both rankings.

Rank AP Poll Coaches
1 Georgia (54) Georgia (50)
2 Texas (4) Ohio State (3)
3 Ohio State (5) Texas (1)
4 Alabama Alabama
5 Ole Miss Ole Miss
6 Missouri Oregon
7 Tennessee Penn State
8 Penn State Missouri
9 Oregon Tennessee
10 Miami (FL) Utah
11 USC USC
12 Utah Miami (FL)
13 Oklahoma State Oklahoma
14 Kansas State Oklahoma State
15 Oklahoma Kansas State
16 LSU Michigan
17 Michigan LSU
18 Notre Dame Arizona
19 Louisville Notre Dame
20 Arizona Clemson
21 Iowa State Louisville
22 Clemson Washington
23 Nebraska Iowa State
24 Boston College Nebraska
25 Northern Illinois Memphis

As mentioned, the Cowboys weren’t the only team that got put on an unexpected upset alert, and a few of those ranked teams even succumbed to the carnage.

No. 19 Kansas fell to unranked Illinois. Then unranked Iowa State got some payback on the Big Ten, defeating No. 21 Iowa in the 2024 Cy-Hawk game. No. 23 Georgia Tech fell to unranked Syracuse. The biggest upset came with No. 5 Notre Dame falling to Northern Illinois which, as it happens, is now in the AP at No. 25. And Michigan team fell seven spots in each poll after falling to Texas in a Top 10 matchup.

OSU is the second-highest ranked among Big 12 teams in both polls behind Utah and ahead of the likes of Kansas State, Arizona and Iowa State.

The Cowboys will face both Utah and Kansas State in consecutive weeks to start their Big 12 slate, but first they head to Tulsa to cap the nonconference against the Golden Hurricane. Kickoff is Saturday at 11 a.m. CST.
