The Cowboys are one step closer to landing one of the top talents out of the state of Oklahoma, at least originally.

Jaden Nickens, a four-star wide receiver in the 2025 class and longtime Cowboy target, listed Oklahoma State among five finalists on Friday. The Cowboys are among the group of Georgia, Texas A&M, Kansas and Cal.

Nickens originally committed to Oklahoma as an OKC prospect having played for both Milwood and Douglass. The four-star receiver, now competing out of Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, decommitted from the Sooners back in March. According to Nickens, that decision was made out of a desire to showcase his talents both on the gridiron and the hardwood.

“This decommitment is all about me and my dreams,” Nickens posted then. “I want to experience the process more and explore with my options open, and for the colleges locking back in I’m looking to play both sports. I want to be a duel-sport Student Athlete! I have faith in myself and God that this is part of his will.”

Oklahoma State hoops extended an offer back in September of 2021 under Mike Boynton, just a couple months before Mike Gundy’s staff offered. The fact that OSU is in his final group might give some nod toward whether or not Steve Lutz is interested in honoring that offer.

247Sports still lists Nickens among the Cowboys’ offers for 2025. Kansas, one of the other finalists, and Arizona State have also both offered in football and hoops. The Cowboys did make Nickens’ Top 8 in football the last go round.

Nickens is a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals, with the latter being the highest, currently ranking him as the No. 5 wide receiver in the nation. The Cowboys currently have 15 commits for the 2025 cycle. If he were to sign with the Cowboys, Nickens would be the highest-rated prospect in the class and would lift OSU’s ranking from 57th to 52nd nationally, and one spot up to 10th in the Big 12 team rankings, per 247.
