OSU Soccer: Cowgirls Erase 2-Goal Deficit in Final 13 Minutes to Advance in Big 12 Tournament
Alex Morris scored from well outside the box to send the Cowgirls to the quarterfinals.
The Cowgirls started the Big 12 tournament off with some fireworks on Wednesday.
The Oklahoma State soccer team beat Cincinnati 3-2 in the first round of the conference tournament, but it wasn’t all that straightforward. The Cowgirls went down 2-0 in the 67th minute before erasing the deficit with three goals in the final 13 minutes. Senior wingback Alex Morris put the Cowgirls ahead in 89th minute with a beauty of a shot from well outside the penalty box.

It was another Morris who got the Cowgirls’ scoring started — Reganne, Alex’s younger sister. It was the first goal of the younger Morris’ career. It came in the 78th minute as the ball was pinballing around the Cincy box before falling to Reganne’s left foot, and she slotted it home past the diving goalkeeper.
Junior midfielder Xcaret Pineda then tied the game in the 87th minute on a goal that was initially considered a Bearcat own goal before Pineda was awarded her sixth goal of the season after review. That set up Alex Morris’ game-winner.
Conceding multiple goals has been a rarity for this OSU defense this season. The Cowgirls entered the Big 12 Tournament at 13-3-3 and had given two goals in a just four games during the regular season. OSU had 15 regular season shutouts, for reference.
This win could go a long way in putting the Cowgirls into the NCAA Tournament field for the first time since 2020. But in the meantime, the Cowgirls have more work to do in Kansas City. OSU will play BYU in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 tournament at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Cougars are the tournament’s 4 seed while the Cowgirls are the 5 seed. OSU and BYU met in Provo in late September in a game that finished tied at 2.
