Wrestling Preview: Broadcast Info, Protected Lineups and Storylines for Oklahoma State vs. Wyoming
David Taylor’s first dual inside GIA
David Taylor will get his first experience inside Gallagher-Iba Arena this weekend.
Oklahoma State (2-0) has a pair of home duals this weekend, with Friday’s matchup against Wyoming (2-0) being the Cowboys’ home opener and Taylor’s first home dual since taking over the program after John Smith’s retirement this past offseason.
“Really excited to wrestle in Gallagher, and the history and tradition that goes with this program and this arena,” Taylor said. “We have some cool things that we’re doing for the guys, just the walkouts. I think things that are exciting. It’s not just a dual meet, you’re participating in a show, in an event. But it still comes to wrestling. You gotta come out and score more points than your opponent. That’s what we’re kind of focused on.”
Here’s everything to know about the No. 3 Cowboys’ matchup with the other No. 24 Cowboys.

Three Storylines
Who Wrestles at 133?: Two opposite Cowboys wrestled at 133 pounds last weekend. Super senior Reece Witcraft started the season opener against Utah Valley, pinning Kase Mauger. On Sunday against Oregon State, though, it was highly touted freshman Cael Hughes, who was a four-time state champion at Stillwater High School. In his debut, Hughes beat Damion Elliott 8-2. When Taylor met with the media on Wednesday, he was noncommittal on who he will send out there going forward.
Big-Time Visitors: Two of the top recruits from the 2026 class, Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest, will visit OSU this weekend and be in attendance at both duals. Both swapped spots throughout their careers as the best prospect in the class. Bassett has the Cowboys included in his final 12 school choices, while Forrest is down to 10 options with OSU still in the running.
Former Cowboy: For the second time already this season, Taylor, a Penn State alum, will face off against an OSU alum on the other side. Wyoming coach Mark Branch was a two-time NCAA champion at OSU and also served as associate head coach under John Smith for six years before leaving for Wyoming in 2008. Although he’s led his new Cowboys to new heights, Branch still has never beaten his alma mater.
