Official: Oklahoma State Hiring Doug Meacham as Next Offensive Coordinator
Former OSU player and coach returns as its OC.
Mike Gundy is bringing back a former teammate to call the Cowboys’ offense in 2025.
Doug Meacham, 59, is set to return to Stillwater to take over as Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator, the university officially announced on Friday. Multiple reports (like FootballScoop) reported the news Thursday. John Holcomb first reported the possibility. An OSU alum, Meacham was an offensive lineman for the Cowboys from 1983 to 1987. He has been on TCU’s staff since 2020 in various roles, including coordinating the Horned Frogs’ offense in 2021. He has most recently served as TCU’s inside receivers coach. He’s also coordinated offenses at Houston and Kansas, among other stops, over the years.
“We are very excited and fortunate to bring Doug Meacham back as our offensive coordinator,” Gundy said in OSU’s release. “He brings years of experience on the offensive side of the football and experience as a coordinator with play calling duties to our team. Doug is very well-respected by his peers in our profession. He will put together an offensive staff that will provide firepower and be fun to watch for the Oklahoma State fans.”
This will be Meacham’s second stint on Gundy’s staff, as he coached tight ends and inside receivers in Stillwater from 2005 to 2012. He was OSU’s passing game coordinator in 2008 and 2009. He was part of an OSU offensive staff that was in the top five nationally in total offense in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He also had a stint coaching in Stillwater from 1989 to 1991.
Meacham last left Stillwater ahead of the 2013 season to be the OC and quarterbacks coach at Houston. He then spent 2014-16 as the co-offensive coordinator and inside wide receivers coach under Gary Patterson at TCU. He spent two years calling plays at Kansas before returning to TCU where he has served multiple rows under Paterson and now Sonny Dykes, including one year as OC in 2021. He’s been the inside receivers coach for the Horned Frogs since 2022.
Meacham was a Broyles Award finalist in 2014. TCU finished 12-1 that season while averaging 46.5 points a game, which ranked second nationally, and 533 yards a game.
The Cowboys offense scored just 27.2 points per game, good for the 12th in the expanded Big 12. OSU also ranked 13th in total offense, third-down percentage and 14th in rushing offense despite having a returning Doak Walker Award winning in Ollie Gordon and a veteran offensive line. This next year will truly be a rebuilding year with the loss of Gordon, the entire O-line, and the Cowboys’ top three receivers in De’Zhaun Stribling (portal) and Brennan Presley and Rasho Owens (eligibility).
This one of the biggest in a series of moves that involve Gundy and OSU retooling the football staff following a restructuring of the veteran head coach’s deal and the firings of offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn and defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo. Earlier this week, the school officially announced Todd Grantham as its next DC. It has been reported that Kap Dede will take over as linebackers coach.
